Volunteering is an important part of everyday life. At The Roundhill Academy we try and engender a culture of volunteering so to inspire students to make a difference within their communities or to an individual’s life and develop compassion by giving service to others. Some of the projects that we undertake are:
- Make a Difference Day. Year 8 students spend the day taking part in volunteering projects with different groups of people, helping in primary schools or elderly care homes, or undertaking litter picks and environmental projects
- Christmas Hampers. All tutor groups create a Christmas Hamper which students from the JLT then deliver to elderly or disadvantaged local residents.
- The Roundhill Mile. All students take part in the Roundhill Mile, running 2 laps of the school grounds whilst trying to raise money for charity. In 2016 the school raised over £8000 for Heartwise, a charity who specialise in delivering CPR and Defib training to young people.
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 take part in long-term volunteering projects over a minimum of three months in a range of settings.
Any student who wishes to take part in a volunteering project should get in touch with Syston & District Volunteering Group or Voluntary Action Leicestershire both of whom have a list of volunteering opportunities that students could get involved in.
